UMPQUA NATIONAL FOREST HAS VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

May 7, 2024 3:20 a.m.

There are volunteer opportunities in the Umpqua National Forest this month.

A UNF release said volunteers play a crucial role in maintaining the delicate balance of the ecosystem. That includes working to protect sensitive areas, reduce environmental impact and promote responsible outdoor recreation.

The release said volunteers provide an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, build strong relationships, and create a sense of belonging. Some people volunteer to engage in activities they enjoy and feel passionate about, such as conservation and preservation.

Opportunities include:

*Volunteers who want to work alongside Forest Service trail staff during the week, helping with routine trail maintenance during the spring and summer. There are opportunities on the Tiller, Cottage Grove, Diamond Lake, and North Umpqua districts.

*There will be a volunteer work party for those who can help brush and log out the Bradley Trail on the Boulder Creek Wilderness, on Saturday May 18th. There is also an opportunity for chainsaw logout on the nearby Deer Leap segment of the North Umpqua Trail for those who are certified sawyers.

For either opportunity, email: lauren.hack@usda.gov.

*Volunteer help is also sought for the Colliding Rivers Information Center – Visitor Services. The facility is in Glide and assistance is needed between June and October. Times and days are to be determined. For more information, contact: misti-kae.bucich@usda.org

*Campground hosts are still needed for Wolf Creek, Broken Arrow, and Poole Creek campgrounds. To volunteer, email: lindsey.mann@usda.gov.
