Umpqua Watersheds has announced the return of Eastwood Nature Days.

A Watersheds release said it is a week-long immersive experience designed to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for the natural world and a life-long love of nature.

Taking place May 6th-10th, the event offers Roseburg’s third grade students the opportunity to delve into the wonders of watershed ecosystems through hands-on activities, interactive workshops and guided exploration led by experienced environmental educators. The mascot this year is the Pacific Sea Lamprey and the motto is: “Part of the Ripple Effect”.

With different schools attending each day, students will enjoy hands on activities exploring the Secrets of Ecosystems, the profound and historic role of Lamprey in Indigenous Cultures and Native American Storytelling, the Wonder of Trees, Hydrology and Watercatchment, Umpqua Early Days, Birding and more.

Lessons will be held at the 40-acre Eastwood Nature Area, which features a traditional Native American Plank House, a drumming circle, riparian areas, Deer Creek and more.

Along with Umpqua Watersheds, other groups supporting and participating in the event include the Umpqua Natural Leadership Science Hub, Umpqua Valley Steam Hub, the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, Umpqua Valley Audubon and Women in Timber.
