A Eugene man was jailed for online sex crime charges by the Myrtle Creek Police Department on April 11th.

Information released late Tuesday said on March 17th, MCPD began an investigation into 27-year-old Derrick Shane Gordon. Detective Kevin Taggart said it was found that Gordon had engaged in an online relationship with a juvenile and eventually agreed to meet the juvenile for sexual contact. Taggart said that Gordon made an attempt to meet the juvenile, driving to Myrtle Creek from his home in Eugene. Gordon was detained and charged with online sexual corruption of a child in the first and second-degree.

More charges are pending, and the investigation is ongoing. MCPD was assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Eugene Police Department in this investigation.

Taggart said MCPD would like to remind parents to closely monitor their child’s activity online and pay attention to who they are talking to online. Taggart said the agency encourages parents to talk to kids about what is and is not appropriate online activity.

Gordon was held on $15,000 bail and released on April 12th.
