April is Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month and Douglas C.A.R.E.S. wants to shed light on the issue of child abuse.
Already in 2024, C.A.R.E.S has treated 28 percent more children than the same three-month period in 2023. There are over 16,000 children in Douglas County and nearly 50 percent of them live at or below poverty level. This financial strain causes child abuse to increase. C.A.R.E.S. provides children a path to healing through support and counseling.
Douglas C.A.R.E.S will host a free family event in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month on Saturday April 6th. It will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club in Roseburg. There will be activities, games, and prizes for the whole family. Free pizza and drinks will be served. Community partners like Aviva Health, Adapt, Advantage Dental, the Winston Police Department and others will be on site as well.
Contact C.A.R.E.S. at 957-5646 for more information.
