The Douglas County Commissioners and the Senior Services Department have announced that Drew and Sandra Holland were given the Volunteers of the Month Award for March 2024.

The couple received the award on Thursday March 14th, at the Bistro-Sixty Senior Dining Site in Sutherlin.

Commissioner Tom Kress, the liaison commissioner for the Senior Services Department, said, “Its wonderful to see couples that volunteer together for our Senior Dining Sites”. Kress said, “We could not do what we do for our older adults without the help of wonderful volunteers like Drew and Sandra”.

Douglas County Lead Food Service Worker at the Sutherlin site, Victoria Kietzman nominated the couple for the award. Kietzman said, “Drew started coming to the Sutherlin site during the pandemic and quickly became one of our favorites in the curb side program. He transitioned to a volunteer over 2 years ago”. Kietzman said, “He is friendly, efficient and has no problem multitasking at the front desk. He greets each person by name and with friendly banter. He is always willing to jump in and help another volunteer when they need help without being asked. Sandra has been volunteering for the Douglas County food program for over three years”. Kietzman said, “She will do any task, does it well, and doesn’t find any job below her. She is self- motivated and takes note as to where she can be of most help without fanfare. She is a very dedicated volunteer we all admire”.

Drew and Sandra moved to the county in 2020 from California. They both volunteer with a number of other organizations as well.
