Roseburg Police jailed a man after part of his vehicle allegedly hit a pedestrian on Sunday.
An RPD report said at 11:30 a.m. a victim was walking his dog in the 2800 block of Southeast Douglas Avenue when the incident took place. 63-year old David Triplett told officers his minivan didn’t hit the victim, but then said the pedestrian was in the road. Triplett gave the officer his dash cam SD card and the footage was reviewed.
The report said it showed that Triplett’s vehicle was approaching the pedestrian and the driver was heard talking about hitting the victim if he didn’t move over. The officer determined that Triplett did not exercise due diligence by slowing down or providing a safe amount of room to pass by the pedestrian. The report said the vehicle passed so closed to the victim that the passenger mirror hit the man, causing it to break.
Triplett’s driving status was found to be suspended at the felony level. His probation officer was him detained for the new crimes. He was also charged with reckless driving, reckless endangering, harassment and for a probation violation. Triplett was detained without bail.
