HIGH SURF WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT

December 28, 2023 3:40 a.m.

A High Surf Warning remains in effect through Thursday night at 10:00 p.m. for the south-central Oregon coast and Curry County coast.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said dangerously large breaking waves of 25 to 35 feet are expected before they ease back to 20 to 25 feet.

The Advisory area includes all beaches of Coos, Curry and Douglas counties.

Extremely large breaking waves will create hazardous conditions along beaches and area shorelines. Waves will inundate beaches and surge into normally dry areas. Infrastructure damage and significant beach erosion can be expected.

Forecasters said king-tides are expected during this time and will increase the inundation of beaches and increase the risk of beach erosion.

Beaches and coastlines will become hazardous due to very large and life-threatening surf conditions. Residents should stay off beaches, rocks, jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure.
