Progress continues towards containment on the Tyee Ridge Complex, burning 20 miles northwest of Roseburg.
The complex is 48 percent contained and is listed at 7,853 acres. 1,356 people are assigned to the fires.
An update from Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team 3 said crews move further into the burn area each day, increasing mop up and hazard tree mitigation. Crews are mopping up 200 feet into burnt areas around the fire perimeter and up to 300 feet into burnt areas around structures. These distances are subject to terrain, fuel types, fuel conditions, and predicted weather.
Crews are using infrared cameras to detect hot spots, continuing to secure control lines. Water tenders and engines supported mop up along Briarwood Road, where previous tactical firing occurred. Crews controlled and secured lines southwest of Griers Reservoir, in the location of recent firing operations.
Predicted weather conditions may allow for additional vegetation consumption from previous firing operations.
On the northern end of the complex, the Big Tom Fire is reaching complete containment. Hoses and hardware will start to be removed from the fire lines and repair operations will begin. Resources on the northern perimeter of the Cougar Fire will move south to Hubbard Creek Road to provide additional support securing areas around homes.
