DRIVERS SHOULD CONSIDER AVOIDING TRAVEL WEDNESDAY MORNING

February 28, 2023 4:20 p.m.

Information from the Oregon Department of Transportation says drivers should consider avoiding travel Wednesday morning, and should prepare for the unexpected through this weekend.

A release said freezing temperatures may be severe enough that they trigger government, school and business closures in parts of Oregon.

The ingredients for local snowfall will be around for several days, so drivers should go to www.tripcheck.com and check local weather information even before going on local errands.

Pedestrians should watch for icy sidewalks. Property owners should consider clearing their walkways to make them safer for those who walk and roll.

The release said mountain passes are getting heavy snowfall this week, often on top of packed snow and ice. Even the lower-elevation passes between Roseburg and Ashland on Interstate 5 are getting snowfall and may require chains or traction tires. Those traveling over mountain passes should bring chains and an emergency kit.
