EXPECT WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS IN SOUTHERN OREGON

Travelers in southwest Oregon should expect snowy roads and winter conditions this week as winter weather moves through the region.

A release from the Oregon Department of Transportation Southwest Oregon said drivers should plan ahead, take extra time, and expect delays throughout the week.

ODOT Public Information Officer Matt Noble said in the valleys, drivers should expect light snow and wet roads. Noble said low overnight temperatures may cause ice to form on roads.

Noble said on the high Cascades routes, motorists should prepare for heavy, blowing snow. Snow is expected at elevations along Interstate 5 north of Grants Pass and at the Siskiyou summit on the Oregon-California border.

A release said chains may be required through several high elevation areas. Chain requirements can change throughout the day, depending on conditions. Drivers should chain up in designated areas on road shoulders only.

Noble said ODOT road crews are prepared for snow and work continuously to keep roads clear. Some roads may have snow or ice longer than in years past.
