WINTER STORM WARNING/ADVISORY STARTS MONDAY NIGHT

A Winter Storm Warning and a Winter Weather Advisory begins Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. for much of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said the Warning is for areas above 1,500 feet and the Advisory is for locations above 500 feet. This is for central Douglas County, Josephine and Jackson counties and for eastern Curry County and will be in place through 1:00 p.m. Tuesday.

In the Warning area heavy snow is expected with total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches, and 7 to 10 inches forecast above 2,500 feet. In the Advisory area, 2 to 4 inches are expected above 500 feet.

Forecasters said all areas above 500 feet will experience winter weather impacts to some degree. This includes Interstate 5 from Ashland to Cottage Grove and most highways in the region.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Forecasters said travel is strongly discouraged because of dangerous conditions.

Those who must travel should keep tire chains, a flashlight, blankets, food, water, medications, and a fully charged phone with them.
