The Coquille Indian Tribal Community Fund has awarded $72,500 in grants to 8 non-profit organizations in Douglas County.

Tribal Chairwoman Brenda Meade said it was humbling to see the list of grant recipients for its Community Fund grants this year. Meade said, “The incredible amount of work happening by our non-profit organizations reminds us how lucky we are to live in Southern Oregon. On behalf of the Coquille Tribe, we feel honored to be able to support their hard work”.

The largest Douglas County grant, which was $15,000, went to Onward Roseburg for mobile homeless services. $10,000 grants went to both the Oakland School District and to the Family Development Center/Parent Relief Nursery. Friendly Kitchen/Meals on Wheels will receive $8,000. St. Vincent de Paul in Myrtle Creek will get a grant of $7,500, while a $7,000 grant will go to the Douglas Community Library Association. $5,000 grants have been allotted to the Reedsport Volunteer Fire Department, Reedsport Church of God/Project Blessing, and to Project Youth Plus.

The Coquille Indian Tribe established its Community Fund to share the proceeds of The Mill Casino Hotel with organizations that benefit southwestern Oregon residents. Grants are awarded in 7 areas of focus: education, public safety, arts and culture, environment, historic preservation, health and problem gaming.

The tribal fund accepts grant applications in the fall of each year. Learn more at www.coquilletribe.org.
