WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR MOUNTAIN AREAS THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING

A Winter Weather Advisory for mountain areas in southern Oregon is in place from 7:00 a.m. Tuesday through 7:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 16 inches is expected with winds gusting as high as 60 miles per hour. Snow levels will continue to fall, reaching 3,000 feet by the end of Tuesday evening with snow continuing into Wednesday morning.

The Advisory area includes the south central and southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains including Diamond Lake. Forecasters said travel could be very difficult. Strong winds could cause tree damage.

The highest accumulations are expected at elevations above 5,000 feet including the vicinities of Diamond Lake, Crater Lake, Willamette Pass and Lake of the Woods.

Drivers should slow down and allow extra time to reach their destination. Carry tire chains and be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities.
