Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a man following alleged firearm incidents on Wednesday morning.

Lieutenant Brad O’Dell said at 11:00 a.m. 911 dispatchers received a call from a business in the 3000 block of Old Highway 99 South in Green stating that 77-year old Don Hartline of Roseburg, had pointed a firearm at the site manager after a disagreement about non-payment for services. The caller told dispatchers that Hartline had left in a vehicle.

O’Dell said as deputies were investigating the incident and searching for the suspect, a second 911 call was received regarding the man. This call came at 11:15 a.m. from a business in the 600 block of Southeast Jackson Street in Roseburg. The caller said Hartline was at that location and had a gun in his pocket. O’Dell said Hartline had reportedly told the caller that he had pointed a gun at someone and the police were looking for him. The caller said the suspect was cooperative with them and agreed to place the gun on the counter and allow the employees to leave. All occupants of the business exited safely leaving Hartline alone inside.

O’Dell said law enforcement officers from DCSO and from the Roseburg Police Department responded and contained the area. Crisis negotiators from DCSO began communicating with Hartline with the goal of de-escalating the situation. At 11:45 a.m. Hartline exited the business and was taken into custody without further incident.

Hartline was charged with menacing, pointing a firearm at another, unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree disorderly conduct and for unlawful possession/concealment of firearms. Hartline was detained without bail.

During the situation downtown, a section of Jackson Street and other intersecting streets were blocked off by law enforcement.
