PROGRESS AS YONCALLA REMAINS UNDER BOIL WATER AND CONSERVATION NOTICES

Progress continues to be made in dealing with issues regarding the water supply, though customers of the City of Yoncalla will remain under “Conserve” and “Boil Water” orders through at least the weekend.

City Administrator Jennifer Bragg said water pressure is improving throughout the community. The amount of water getting into storage towers is increasing. Bragg said water specialists have been brought in to see what can be done to speed up progress. However, a handful of customers are still without water.

Until all customers have water service as normal, Bragg said testing on the water quality cannot be done, according to state regulations.

The problems began on September 29th when the main water line at the community’s water treatment plant burst. That caused a sixty-foot crater in the earth, which ultimately led to lots of equipment being destroyed at the plant. Parts were brought in and service began to be restored the next night. But initially, higher elevation locations were getting only minimal water pressure, with some properties getting no pressure at all.

While the situation has required plenty of extra work and expense, Bragg has remained positive due to all the help that has come from both inside and outside the community.

News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN will continue to follow the story.
