CHI MERCY MEDICAL CENTER ADDRESSES SPILL ON TUESDAY

CHI Mercy Medical Center is addressing a spill which took place on Tuesday.

Information from Mercy shared on their Facebook page said during a routine generator test early Tuesday morning on the Mercy campus, a system deficiency was identified. That resulted in the emergency equipment fuel overflowing from the basin on campus near the grounds outside of the main hospital. No patients or staff were impacted by this event.

The post said thanks to a quick response from the hospital’s facilities operations, they were able to prevent additional fuel from entering the environment and immediately contacted the appropriate agencies to assist with isolation and recovery work. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified as well.

Mercy said efforts continue to prevent further contamination, in addition to incident clean up. A Mercy spokesperson said First Strike Environmental has been contracted to conduct the mitigation work.
