SIGNIFICANT EAST WIND EVENT FOR THE WINDIGO, POTTER, BIG SWAMP FIRES

A significant east wind event is expected for the Windigo, Potter and Big Swamp fires.

An update said by Friday and Saturday, winds could gust up to 30-35 miles per hour from the east. Temperatures will continue to be above normal going into the weekend with very dry conditions prevailing.

On the Willamette National Forest, building, maintaining, using a fire, camp fire or stove fire, including a charcoal, wood or coal fire, are prohibited. Pressure liquid or gas stoves, lanterns or heaters that can be switched on or off are allowed. Check the Willamette and Umpqua National forests websites for specific public use restrictions.

Crews continued suppression repair, including road repair, on the Windigo Fire. On the Potter Fire, brushing is taking place along the 2136 and crews continue backhaul and removal of hose lay in the area. There is little activity on the Big Swamp or Camel Hump fires. All the fires are 100 percent contained, with the exception of the Potter Fire, which is 99 percent contained.

334 people are working on the fires. That includes 8 hand crews, 9 engines, 1 dozer, and 17 water tenders.
