RED FLAG WARNING STARTS FIRE MORNING

September 8, 2022 4:15 a.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from 12:00 a.m. Friday through 10:00 a.m. Saturday for the Umpqua Basin, Umpqua National Forest, Siskiyou Mountains, Southern Oregon Cascades and eastern Rogue Valley

Forecasters said low humidity and gusty east winds will occur over and near the Cascades and coast range. A Haines Index of 6 over the Rum Creek fire will create Red Flag conditions there on Friday.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. East winds are expected to gust to 30 miles per hour. Hot, dry and unstable conditions are possible on Saturday which may prompt additional issues for the Windigo Fire.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. These conditions promote rapid spread of fire which may become life threatening. Evacuate if ordered to, or if a fire threatens.
