RED FLAG WARNING FOR UMPQUA BASIN STARTING FRIDAY

September 7, 2022 3:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from 12:00 a.m. Friday through 10:00 a.m. Saturday for the Umpqua Basin, Umpqua National Forest, Siskiyou Mountains and eastern Rogue Valley.

An Urgent Fire Weather Message said any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.

The hazard area will start off confined to the Cascades and grow through the day on Friday, spreading into the foothills on Friday night when the poorest recoveries are expected. On Saturday, hot, dry and unstable conditions are possible, which may cause additional issues for the Windigo Fire.

Forecasters said a Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. These conditions promote rapid fire spread which may become life threatening.
