ROSEBURG SET TO CELEBRATE SESQUICENTENNIAL MILESTONE WITH EVENTS

The City of Roseburg turns 150 years old on October 3rd, 2022 – and community organizers are busy planning a month full of Sesquicentennial events.

A release said the goal is to “…springboard our community into the next 150 years with a renewed passion for this incredible city we all proudly call home”.

Events include:

*Roseburg 150 Party in the Park: The big event on Sunday, October 2nd, will be a community-wide party in Stewart Park from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. featuring speeches and a proclamation, entertainment, Roseburg history, food trucks, birthday cake and Umpqua Dairy ice cream, a giant birthday card for everyone to sign and more. There will be an Aaron Rose tent, family-oriented games and races, youth activities and a “Walk Through Time” with historic photos and figures staked out along the Stewart Park multiuse path. The event is free of charge.

*Roseburg 150 Run/Walk: Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on October 2nd, Thrive Umpqua and partners including Roseburg Parks and Recreation, the YMCA of Douglas County and Adapt will host a 5K run/walk in Stewart Park. All who pre-register by September 25th will receive a free Roseburg 150 swag bag. The event is free and will include a light breakfast.

*Time Capsule Ceremony at City Hall on October 3rd: at 9:00 a.m. Brief speeches will be made by Mayor Larry Rich, City Manager Nikki Messenger and possibly others. A time capsule will be buried by Roseburg Public Works with a marker explaining that the capsule should be opened in 50 years on October 3rd, 2072 to celebrate Roseburg’s Bicentennial. The capsule will include artifacts and memorabilia from diverse groups, organizations and businesses. It will include a journal that will be available for residents to sign at the Party in the Park, the day before.

Roseburg 150 activities in October will also include:

*Blocktoberfest Saturday, October 8th in downtown from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Presented by NeighborWorks Umpqua, it will include local breweries and food trucks, live music and entertainment and more.

*Roseburg 150 birthday dinner with the Elks Lodge on Saturday October 15th.
