DFPA RESPONDS TO MONDAY GRASS FIRE

September 6, 2022 4:00 a.m.

Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association, Azalea Rural Fire Protection District and Canyonville-South Umpqua Fire District responded to a grass fire in the median of Interstate 5 near milepost 89 in Azalea at approximately 2:00 p.m. Monday.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachael Pope said when their firefighters arrived, rural responders had already knocked down a majority of the fire. DFPA continued with suppression. The fire was trailed, mopped up and cleared by 3:30 p.m. It was mapped at 1 acre. The fire was human caused and is under investigation.
