Winston Police jailed a man for elude and drug charges on Saturday.

Sergeant Mike Miller said an officer observed a motorcycle traveling on Highway 99 S at a high rate of speed. Miller said the officer paced the bike at 75 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone. As he activated his lights, the bike allegedly accelerated as it headed towards Winston.

Miller said the motorcycle continued onto Hart Street and into the parking lot of the Blue Ridge Apartments in the 300 block, where the rider allegedly tossed something from his waistband. The bike eventually yielded. The rider was identified as Jeremy Whelchel. Miller said officers searched the location where Whelchel tossed the object and reportedly located a baggy of methamphetamine.

Whelchel was charged with attempting to elude police, for unlawful possession of meth and for a parole violation. The 41-year old was detained without bail.
