MELROSE ROAD REMAINS CLOSED AT THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER

August 29, 2022 3:30 a.m.

Melrose Road remains closed at the South Umpqua River as part of the Conn Ford Bridge replacement project.

Dan Latham of the Oregon Department of Transportation said the closure is allowing prime contractor Farline Bridge Inc. to finish building a temporary bypass bridge next to the current structure.

Latham said local traffic is detouring onto Old Melrose Road, Harvard Avenue, Stewart Parkway and Garden Valley Boulevard/Road. Motorists are asked to slow down and drive with caution on the detour. Due to expected congestion, Latham said it will add five minutes to most commutes through the area, though it may take longer at peak times.

Melrose Road is scheduled to open Friday morning using the bypass bridge, which will include two lanes of travel. A 35 mile per hour speed zone is in effect through the work zone. Portable signs will provide traffic control.
