DFPA, OTHER DISTRICTS, DEAL WITH RED BARN FIRE

August 25, 2022 1:40 p.m.

Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association, Riddle Fire Protection District, Myrtle Creek Fire Department, Canyonville-South Umpqua Fire District and Tri City Rural Fire Protection District #4, responded to a grass and brush fire Wednesday night, in the 500 block of South Main Street in Myrtle Creek.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachael Pope said the fire, called the Red Barn Fire, was reported just after 9:30 p.m. Pope said fire suppression crews had the estimated quarter of an acre fire knocked down quickly, eliminating the threat to nearby structures and homes. The area was trailed, mopped up and cleared by 12:00 a.m. Thursday.

Pope said the fire was human caused and is under investigation.

Fire danger remains EXTREME on DFPA protected lands.
