Thursday night at 8:10 p.m. crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association, Camas Valley Rural Fire District and Tenmile Rural Fire Protection District responded to a 0.25 acres old growth fire on Quiet Mountain Road in the Camas Valley area.

Public Information Officer Rachael Pope said wildland firefighters, including with assistance of a 20-person contracted hand crew, remained on scene and conducted an aggressive initial attack. 100 percent of the fire was trailed by 2:00 a.m. Friday. Firefighters are remaining on the scene until the fire is 100 percent contained. The current size is 1.5 acres.

Pope said firefighters working on the Dutchman Complex were able to hold the containment lines overnight and continue to build forward progress and mop up operations. Smaller fires have been trailed, mopped up and cleared.

Pope said a robust initial attack is continuing throughout the day, including helicopter bucket drops and aerial surveillance. Aerial reconnaissance will continue throughout the day. One new fire start was detected in aerial surveillance Friday morning. Crews are responding to the identified fire in the Buck Mountain area, near Thompson Creek.

Pope said DFPA crews are continuing to patrol and monitor around the district. There will likely be additional holdover fires and new starts that ignite. Those who see new smoke in their area, should report it by calling 911.
