Abundant lightning on dry fuels are expected for mountain areas in the region on Thursday.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service have issued a Red Flag Warning through 8:00 p.m. for the Umpqua National Forest, eastern Rogue Valley, Fremont-Winema National Forest, southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains, and surrounding areas.

Forecasters said lightning and high fire danger will likely result in new fire starts. Gusty thunderstorms could contribute to fire spread. Initially isolated thunderstorms will become scattered by afternoon and early evening with plenty of lightning. Winds will be gusty and erratic in and near thunderstorms.
