Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association has staffed over a dozen fires and has responded to over 30 fire reports as of mid-morning, following lightning strikes in the region which began Wednesday night.

Public Information Officer Rachael Pope said the Bear Mountain Fire, located in the Callahans off of Spur Mountain and Callahan Road, is currently the largest reported fire in the district. It is estimated to be 2.5 acres. Private landowner crews, in coordination with DFPA are currently involved in suppression efforts.

Additional updates are expected as the fire situation evolves in the Douglas District.
