GUSTY WINDS EXPECTED IN FOREST AREAS

Gusty northeast winds are expected at higher elevations through Monday on the Umpqua National Forest.

A Forest Service update said hotter temperatures will return early this week with an increasing chance of thunderstorms beginning Tuesday afternoon through Thursday. The highest chances for those storms are on Wednesday.

The North Zone has maintained staffing to respond to any new fire starts including: one task force leader, one 20-person crew, nine engines, three water tenders, one dozer, four fallers, and one heavy equipment boss.

Staffing in the South Zone includes: one Type 3 incident commander, one task force leader, six engines, four modules, three 20-person hand crews, one dozer, one heavy equipment boss and the Pickett Butte Lookout.

Residents are asked to remain careful in the woods and stay informed on current fire restrictions. The forest remains at Public Use Restriction Level 1 and is in Industrial Fire Precaution Level 2.
