STAND BY ME CELEBRATION BACK FOR MOVIE’S 36TH ANNIVERSARY

7/20/2022 5:20 a.m.

An annual celebration of a locally filmed movie in Brownsville is returning for the 36th anniversary of the film’s release.

The popular 1986 move Stand By Me, starring River Phoenix, Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman, and Jerry O’Connell in a coming-of-age film directed by Rob Reiner, was filmed in Oregon.

Filming locations included Brownsville, Cottage Grove, Eugene, Franklin, Veneta, and Junction City, as well as a number of locations in California.

The Linn County Historical Museum is the host of the annual event and organizers said the pandemic made it difficult to hold the event the past two years, but plan to return this weekend for an event that is bigger than ever.

The Stand by Me celebration starts this Saturday in Pioneer Park at 11:00 a.m. and will include guided tours of filming locations along with a Geocache Challenge, 1950’s children’s games, and a cruise-in featuring classic cars from the 1950s including some that were used in the film.

There will also be a fan forum, a costume contest, and a blueberry pie eating contest too.
