SUMMER CHIP SEAL PROGRAM TO BEGIN SOON

Staff with the Douglas County Public Works Department plans to begin work on the annual chip seal program on roadways in the county very soon.

A release said work is scheduled to continue throughout the summer on various roads. Chip seal work is typically performed weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. depending on weather and availability. Traffic in the work areas will be controlled by flaggers during active work hours.

The release said the program involves the application of a special protective surface to existing pavement. Motorists are asked to watch out for posted construction signs, speed reduction warnings and flaggers in these areas during the summer:

*Melrose area, west of Roseburg

*Nonpareil Road, east of Sutherlin

*North Bank Road, East between Wilbur and Glide

*Upper Cow Creek area, East between Canyonville and Azalea
