Last week Senator Ron Wyden secured key provisions that protect Intelligence Community whistle blowers, bolster cybersecurity and end the denial of security clearances for potential intelligence community employees based on past marijuana use.

A release said that came in the 2023 Intelligence Authorization Act that passed the Senate Intelligence Committee Wednesday afternoon.

Wyden said, “This bipartisan legislation makes meaningful strides to improve treatment of whistleblowers and ensuring Congress can perform real oversight of intelligence agencies”. Wyden said he applauded the committee for including his provisions, in particular an amendment ensuring that past marijuana use will not disqualify intelligence community applicants from serving their country. Wyden said, “It’s a common-sense change to ensure IC can recruit the most capable people possible”.
