The Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup has completed its review of the federal process and unanimously concluded that the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines are safe and effective for children as young as six months old.

The workgroup provided its confirmation to the Governors of Oregon, California, Nevada and Washington on Sunday afternoon: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Nklm7aMqcyNrOrxZ-19-fGy-8i2wkxp1/view

A release from Governor Kate Brown said the Moderna two-dose vaccine series and the Phizer three-dose vaccine series are now available to children as young as six months old. The Oregon Health Authority is informing health care providers that vaccinations for children at that age level can now begin.

On Friday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized the use of the vaccines in children as young as six months old and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention affirmed that decision on Saturday.

Brown said, “This is a long awaited moment for so many families. With today’s review by leading doctors, pediatricians and health experts, Oregon parents and children can be confident in the safety and effectiveness of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines for children as young as 6 months old. It is completely normal for parents and kids to have questions about vaccines – I urge you to reach out to your family doctor, health care provider, or pharmacist and get your questions answered today”.
