Roseburg Police charged a man with felony assault Sunday night.

An RPD report said the suspect’s child had been brought to his apartment in the 2800 block of Northeast Douglas Avenue with the biological mother’s permission so the child could spend Father’s Day with the man.

There was a disagreement over who had custody of the minor when the man took the child back to his apartment, which angered the woman. 27-year old Andrew Steele was in the apartment hallway when the woman tried to take the child back at about 11:30 p.m. Steele allegedly reacted by pulling the fire alarm, breaking the woman’s phone and hitting her in the face with it. The woman had a cut across her forehead. The alleged assault took place in front of the child.

Steele was jailed for fourth-degree assault, first-degree disorderly conduct and second-degree criminal mischief. Bail was set at $62,500.
