In the KQEN Cultural Spotlight:

Umpqua Valley Arts is opening its new exhibit, RURAL, on Friday.

UVA said during this time of unimaginable and rapid change, when urban and rural differences are highlighted in political rhetoric and policies, artwork created in Oregon’s rural areas offers the possibility of connecting with those parts of Oregon considered rural and removed. UVA is looking to bridge urban and rural differences for greater understanding.

Works of art for the RURAL show are being displayed in the Hallie Brown Ford Gallery, the Red Door Gallery, and the Corridor Gallery. In the Student Gallery, the exhibit FREEDOM, highlights the work of rural youth.

The show was curated by printmaker and sculptor Tiffany Hokanson of Roseburg, and writer and photographer Bob Keefer of Eugene.

The exhibits will be on display through August 19th. An opening reception will be held Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Normal gallery hours are Tuesdays-Fridays 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
