On Wednesday, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners issued a proclamation at their weekly business meeting calling upon all citizens in the county to observe this Sunday as “Women Veterans Day”.

A release from county government said that Women Veterans Day is celebrated on June 12th of each year across the nation, and Douglas County was honored to be one of the first counties in Oregon to celebrate the newly established Oregon holiday.

Commissioner Tim Freeman presented Women Veterans Day proclamation certificates to a lengthy list of female veterans that serve in the community. The county is home to over 1,500 women veterans, which are the fastest growing segment of the veteran population in the United States.
