Local firefighters received a high level of response from the community, and raised a record amount of money during this year’s Fill the Boot campaign to help the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Engineer/paramedic Scott Cooper from the City of Roseburg Fire Department told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that an unofficial count showed that $18,729 came in during the eight-hour effort on Friday. Firefighters filled multiple intersections in the area of Southeast Stephens Street and Southeast Washington Avenue, where those passing by could make a donation. A fire truck displayed a large American flag to draw attention, from the nearby Rite Aid parking lot.

Cooper said the best year prior raised $13,700. The event was not held the past two years due to the pandemic. Cooper said, “Needless to say, our community is amazing and together we crushed it. The outpouring of donations we received especially during these difficult economic times was truly something special to see”.

Cooper thanked the community “…for the continued support in helping us raise funds for this great cause
