MEMORIAL DAY CLOSURES

May 30, 2022 3:30 a.m.

Monday is Memorial Day and that means there are a number of closures.

Federal, state, county and city offices are not open. Schools are closed. No regular mail will be delivered. Banks and credit unions are not open. Buses with the Umpqua Public Transportation District are not operating. Most professional offices are closed. Many retail businesses are open, though some may be on reduced hours.

According to Douglas County Government, Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday in May to commemorate the brave men and women who have died while in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle while serving in the United States Armed Forces. This year, Memorial Day is being observed for the 154th time and was originally known as Decoration Day. In 1971, Memorial Day became a national holiday by an act of Congress.
