Oregon’s Labor Commissioner picked up the Democratic nod to replace retiring 4th District Congressman Peter DeFazio on Tuesday night.

The Oregon Secretary of State’s Office reported that Val Hoyle had sixty-five percent of the votes in the Democratic Primary. Doyle Canning was the closest challenger but only managed to get fifteen percent. Six other candidates lagged far behind.

Republican Alek Skarlatos of Roseburg was unchallenged in his bid to capture the Republican nomination for the seat. Skarlatos and Hoyle will face off in November in a race that is expected to get plenty of attention from both parties.

In the 2nd district, which now includes part of Douglas County, incumbent Cliff Bentz got seventy-six percent of GOP votes. Joe Yetter captured the Democratic nomination with over sixty-percent of the vote.
