On Friday the Biden administration nominated Alexis Taylor, current Director of the Oregon Department of Agriculture, to serve as Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs of the United States Department of Agriculture.

Elin Miller, president of the Oregon Wine Council Board of Directors, issued a statement applauding the Biden Administration for their nomination.

Miller said, “I am thrilled to see Alexis nominated for this position. She has strong breadth and a depth of understanding of mid-Western agriculture. As a member of the Oregon Board of Agriculture, I have seen Alexis take the lead to help resolve our complex specialty crop issues in the West and advance our international trade opportunities”.

Miller said Taylor, who has served in her role in Oregon since 2016, is coming to the USDA at a critical time for the agricultural industry as trade relations have struggled amidst unprecedented global crises. If confirmed, Taylor will serve as the department’s primary liaison with other U.S. agencies and foreign governments on these and other issues affecting agricultural trade.
