Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a man for an alleged assault on Wednesday.

A DCSO report said at about 11:50 a.m. a victim ran to a neighbor’s house to call 911 after she got cut by a mirror she fell into. The woman said a man had come at her with a knife in the 17,000 block of North Umpqua Highway east of Roseburg and was leaving the area in an SUV.

A deputy located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect was detained. The report said the man’s story kept changing and he wasn’t being truthful about what happened. 35-year old Robert Cumming was charged with fourth-degree assault – a felony – and for menacing. Bail was set at $56,250.
