PASSENGER HOSPITALIZED AFTER VEHICLE HITS EMBANKMENT AND FLIPS

The passenger was hospitalized after a vehicle left the roadway, hit the embankment and flipped back onto the pavement early Saturday morning.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said just before 12:30 a.m. a 22-year old man was driving northbound on Old Highway 99 North going through the Oakland curves when the accident took place. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured. The passenger, a 23-year old man, did not have a seatbelt on and was ejected from the sedan.

The passenger was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center. He was transported to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center for higher level of care. The driver consented to standard field sobriety tests but no signs of impairment were observed. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor. The incident remains under investigation.
