No one was injured but a home and three vehicles were destroyed in a fire Tuesday evening.

Volunteer Fire Chief Steve Rhodes of the Lookingglass Rural Fire District said crews were dispatched to the blaze on Silvercrest Drive just after 10:30 p.m. Rhodes said initial reports of a large fire on a hill came in from several locations in west Roseburg, including Lookingglass Road and Old Military Road. Once the specific location was pinned down, four fire engines and two water tenders from Lookingglass and Douglas County Fire District No. 2 arrived on the scene just after 10:50 p.m.

Rhodes said the first unit found a large approximately eight thousand square foot two-story home, fully involved. Due to a limited water supply, narrow streets and a steep driveway, a porta tank and pumper relay supply was established from Gem Drive. Rhodes said the initial attack was defensive, as firefighters prioritized protecting an exposed nearby dwelling and preventing fire spread. The fire was controlled after 12:00 a.m. Wednesday, with District No. 2 personnel released from the scene by 1:00 a.m.

Rhodes said Lookingglass units remained through an extensive overhaul until 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The loss is estimated to be at two million dollars, including the involved home and the vehicles that were in an attached garage. No one was home at the time of the blaze.

Staff with the Office of the State Fire Marshal arrived on the scene Wednesday morning and is investigating the fire.
