A North Bend woman remains in jail, with new charges added on Thursday.

A Roseburg Police report said early that day an investigation determined that Denise Luiz had earned a victim’s friendship. That allegedly resulted in the suspect manipulating the victim to use her bank account to cash checks on closed accounts. The checks used were stolen. Luiz would deposit the money into the victim’s account via a mobile app. Once the money was placed there, Luiz would then withdraw the money and send it to another person using various cash apps.

The investigation found that $8,000 was lost. Luiz was charged with first-degree counts of theft and forgery, and with computer crimes. She was already held on similar charges. After arraignment, Luiz was detained on $40,000 bail.
