Reedsport Police have a juvenile suspect in custody and under arrest regarding an alleged “…threat of violence”, according to Reedsport School District Superintendent Jon Zwemke.

A release issued by the district late Thursday night said the police are completing their investigation and have said that school buildings can be reopened. The district was closed Wednesday and Thursday while the investigation was underway. Zwemke said the district will continue updating details as they are allowed to by the justice system, but do not want to jeopardize the work that has been done. Zwemke said, “For the time being, the immediate matter is resolved”.

School buildings and offices will open on Monday. School activities will resume this weekend. The district operates Mondays through Thursdays, so no classes are held on Fridays. Zwemke said decisions about rescheduling postponed activities will be made in the coming week. He said police have indicated that no additional precautions are needed, and that law enforcement is working to close the case.

Zwemke said “It is important to know that the District will always take incidents like this seriously and we have the safety of our students and staff as our first goal. This has been a challenging time”. Zwemke thanked the work of the police and their partners in resolving the situation.
