On Wednesday, Douglas County Commissioners Tim Freeman, Chris Boice and Tom Kress issued proclamations in honor of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and National Animal Care and Control Professionals Appreciation Week.

The first proclamation recognized Public Safety Telecommunicators, better known as 911 communications professionals. The release said they play a crucial role in public safety efforts as they answer emergency and lifesaving calls from those in need 24 hours a day throughout the year. Commissioners presented special certificates to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and County Emergency Communications 911 staff. The DCEC center receives and dispatches calls for six police agencies, twenty-eight fire agencies and nine ambulance service providers.

The second proclamation honored animal control officers who dedicate their professional careers to rescue pets in danger, protect human health and safety, help wildlife, livestock, exotic animals and pets and much more. Certificates were presented to Douglas County Animal Control Division staff and the Winston Police Department. Both agencies encourage responsible pet ownership, including compliance with state and local laws and the spaying/neutering of dogs and cats.
