Staff with the Umpqua National Forest will participate in the Oregon State University’s Douglas County School Forestry Tour.

After a few years off due to the pandemic, it will return May 4th through the 6th near the Glide Transfer Station.

The tour brings together all the 5th graders in the county to learn about forestry and other natural resource careers and sciences. The Umpqua National Forest has participated for over fifty years with specialists providing an opportunity to inspire kids to pursue careers in natural resources.

The tour is full of classes about stream health, forestry and more. Instructors also lead games and other activities geared around deepening participants appreciation and understanding of natural resources. There will also be a tree planting station this year with each participant having the opportunity to take home saplings.
