Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a Medford man after a pursuit early Sunday.

A DCSO report said at about 3:20 a.m. a report came in that a stolen vehicle out of Phoenix was possibly heading northbound near Canyonville. The sports car passed a deputy near the fairgrounds exit. Units were set up to spike it if needed at the Winchester exit. The deputy initiated a traffic stop a mile south of there but the car sped off immediately. The chase continued until Sutherlin when the vehicle left the freeway, went onto Parkhill Lane then headed south on the freeway.

A Roseburg officer spike stripped the vehicle a mile south of Sutherlin. The driver continued until all of the tread had shredded off the tires. He kept going on bare rims until the Winchester exit where the car did circles in the intersection of Highway 99 and College Road. The car headed to a nearby business property off of Del Rio Road where it hit a pole and a deputy pinned the vehicle in.

The driver, 31-year old Jose Macias gave up and was taken into custody. He was charged with attempting to elude a police officer, three counts of first-degree criminal mischief, recklessly endangering another person and for reckless driving. Macias was held on $212,500 bail.
