On Wednesday, Douglas County Commissioners Tim Freeman, Chris Boice and Tom Kress hosted a special music concert at the courthouse and issued a proclamation for Music in our Schools Month.

A release said over seventy-five students, ages nine to twenty, filled the halls of the facility with music. That included 5th and 6th grade students from Oakland Middle School, Geneva Academy’s Honor Choir, advanced students from the Umpqua Valley Youth Orchestra, Freemont Middle School’s choral group “Kindred Spirit”, “VocalEssence” from Sutherlin High School and the Umpqua Singers from Umpqua Community College.

The proclamation recognized “the tremendous impact that music education has on our youth, how it enriches their minds, allows for deeper engagement in all aspects of their learning, and creates a positive outlet that enhances their future success”.
