Eva McMillan has been named Future First Citizen by the Roseburg High School Foundation.
That announcement was made at an in-person event at RHS on Tuesday night.
The teen receives a $10,000 scholarship for the college of her choice. McMillan plans to study architecture and is considering New York Institute of Technology, Cornell and the University of Southern California among her college choices. McMillan hopes to eventually own an architectural firm. The RHS senior is a drum major, the captain of the school’s golf team, a member of Link Crew, and is the secretary for the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society. She is also the founder and president of the RHS French club.
McMillan has been involved as a volunteer for Saving Grace Pet Adoption Center, Partner Sports Camp, and the SOLV beach clean-up.
Finalists Charles Anderson, Aiyana Brown, Eliza Eckman and Marin Gray each receive a $4,000 scholarship from the foundation.
The Future First Citizen recognition and scholarship award was initiated for RHS seniors approximately 20 years ago. It was originally designed and supported financially by a combination of local businesses and individuals, many of whom are supporting the return of the award with a three-year commitment. In 2019, the RHS Foundation welcomed the addition of the recognition and its oversight.
McMillan will talk about the honor on the Morning Conversation Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. on News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN.
