Douglas County Commissioners Tim Freeman, Chris Boice and Tom Kress, along with the Senior Services Department, are announcing the reopening of the rural senior dining sites to “dine-in” bistro-style service.

A release from County government said over the past two years, the sites have been limited to drive-through meal pick-up service, due to the pandemic.

Along with re-opening, the sites have undergone some upgrades, starting with a new name, “Bistro Sixty”. The sites now offer cafe’ style seating, new table décor, longer hours and classy dinnerware. The sites are in Glendale, Glide, Sutherlin, Riddle, Winston, Yoncalla and Reedsport.

The release said a big part of the new look was due to a donation of nearly 400 high quality place settings from the City of Winston. The Winston Community Center has had the dinnerware on hand as a rental option for catered events at the venue for many years, but found it was underutilized and taking up too much space. The Winston City Council declared the dishes as surplus and donated them to the Douglas County Senior Meals Program.

Senior dining sites in Glendale and Glide reopened last week. Others sites will reopen on different dates during the month of April. Once in operation, meals will be served on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, starting at 11:45 a.m. The sites will continue outside meal pick-up service for the time being, but only by request. The Meals on Wheels delivery program will continue to operate without interruption.
